Since we don’t have a briefs page this week I had some requests to post this information on my blog:
A fundraiser gala event will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Dec. 1 at Heather Ridge Golf Club in the Noonans banquet hall; 13521 E Iliff Ave, Aurora for the “Resources for a Second Chance” organization.
The nonprofit organization was founded December 2011 year to provide jobs, housing, educational resources for those in need including those who have been in jail or prison. The gala will feature a silent auction with items including Denver Nuggets tickets, gift certificates to restaurants and more items. Awards will also be given to Aurora Mayor Steve Hogan for his dedication to the Aurora community after the July 20 theater massacre.
We are also giving awards to Mayor Hancock for his Jobs 2012 initiative, and to Mayor Hogan for his dedication to the community after the Aurora Theater shooting.
“We want to keep people from going back to jail and help them gain a foot hold back into the community through jobs, housing, and education,” Rachael Theragood, founder and president of Resources for a Second Chance, said in an email. “We also feel that we should help them find a way to reconnect with family and kids that they may have lost during their time in prison/jail.”
The Aurora Municipal Center will be hosting a Holiday Tree Lighting event at 4:30 p.m. Dec. 4 at the AMC building at 15151 E. Alameda Pkwy. The building will be lit up at 5:30 p.m. and Aurora Mayor Steve Hogan and Aurora City Council members will host the event. There will be carolers, songs by the City Singers, and refreshments.
