Evert was the city of Fort Lauderdale’s tennis director for 49 years and taught a wide range of top junior players. All five of his children reached at least the final of a national junior championship, and daughter Chris became one of the greatest players ever, winning 18 major titles and finishing No. 1 for seven years.
“I can’t describe the feeling right now,” said Bencic, the winner this year at Eastbourne for her first career title. “I was very overwhelmed from the situation on the court, but I’m just so happy the (winning) forehand landed in and she couldn’t reach it anymore. It was an incredible feeling. I have no words.”

“That’s the past,” Serena jokes now with an eye roll. “I was young.”
“He came out firing some incredible shots,” said Djokovic, who also won the title in 2011 and is going for a ninth Grand Slam title. “He made, I think, four winners in the first game, four or five in the second game. He was a break up but I managed to regroup, play some good tennis and get the control on my side.”
“She came out so fast, I was like, ‘Oh my God, if I don’t start I’m going to be down a set.’ And I was tired of being down a set,” Williams said.
