THORNTON | Through video study and talking with her coaches, Christie Yee knew her floor exercise could be better the second time around at the Class 5A state gymnastics meet. The Cherokee Trail student — who competes for the Overland co-op gymnastics team — cleaned things up for her performance in the event in Saturday’s individual event finals at Thornton High School and came home with a state championship.


THORNTON | The Overland co-op gymnastics team came into Thursday’s Class 5A state meet undefeated and posted its best score of the season in the competition at Thornton High School. It wasn’t quite enough for the Trailblazers, who exceeded coach Lisa Sparrow’s expectations, but a fully healthy Pomona team had a little too much individual firepower in winning its second straight state title.


GREENWOOD VILLAGE | Wagon wheels used to roll over the Overland and Smoky Hill trails long ago in Aurora. The Overland football team’s path to claiming the replica Wagon Wheel — the traveling trophy in the longstanding rivalry — also stayed exclusively on the ground Thursday night in the A-Town Game of the Week.

AURORA | Full replay of the A-Town Game of the Week prep football contest — Arapahoe vs. Overland — played on Oct. 6, 2016, at Stutler Bowl in Greenwood Village, presented by the Aurora Sentinel and StreamItSports. Arapahoe topped Overland 35-14 in the Mount Massive League opener for both teams.
