The group said Coffman’s work on veteran issues in Congress and his own military service and tours of duty in combat. The group specifically cited Coffman’s support for the Veteran Urgent Access to Mental Healthcare Act, which would guarantee mental health services for veterans who were discharged on other than honorable grounds.


Currently veterans who were dishonorably discharged can’t access services including mental health care. The Veteran Urgent Access to Mental Healthcare Act would allow the Department of Veterans Affairs to provide initial mental health assessments and mental health care services to veterans at risk of suicide or harming others.
