AURORA | Positioning for the state field hockey playoffs continues to change as the regular season concludes this week. Monday’s meeting between Kent Denver and Regis Jesuit made a slight difference in the order of the eight teams that begin postseason play Friday, but it was a quality late season matchup between teams who figure to be major playoff factors.


AURORA | The Eaglecrest softball team went into Class 5A regionals seeded first and will go into the 5A state tournament seeded first, with the end goal of a first-place finish to the 2017 season. The Raptors lived up to their lofty seeding at Saturday’s Region 1 tournament at the Aurora Sports Park, beating Denver East and Mountain Vista by a combined total of 25-1 in two 10-run rule victories.


AURORA | The Hinkley boys soccer team all but wrapped up the EMAC championship with a 3-0 victory at Aurora Central Saturday. Coach Marcos Madera’s Thunderbirds had a one-game lead on the Trojans going into the contest and made sure it didn’t get away, scoring twice in the first half and once early in the second half to stay unbeaten through nine conference games.


DENVER | The final day of the Class 5A boys state tennis tournament included a whole lot of mathematical possibilities for the Regis Jesuit boys tennis team. The Raiders went into Saturday’s championship round of the three-day tournament trailing Fairview by two points and Cherry Creek by with 17 potential points in front of them, with several different scenarios leading to their first state championship since 2010.
