AURORA | The Colorado Department of Transportation is advising drivers avoid Interstate 225 all day Friday as road crews conduct emergency road repairs. Officials are unsure when traffic conditions will return to normal.
CDOT officials last night expected to divert southbound traffic on the road to accommodate construction projects for light rail and road widening, however crews found unexpected problems with the diversion.
“There is some loose pavement where southbound I-225 transitions from asphalt to concrete,” CDOT Project Engineer Josh Barrett said in a statement. “Since the road damage is directly in the wheel path of the left lane, we must get the pavement repaired immediately for the safety of the traveling public. While this work is underway, we strongly encourage motorists to avoid I-225 and seek alternate routes.”
There is no timetable for all southbound and northbound lanes to reopen. CDOT officials have said that southbound lanes would be redirected for nine months starting Thursday to accommodate for construction.
