A mediator who worked with Sept. 11 and Virginia Tech shooting victims is taking over the Aurora theater shooting victim fund, officials said Friday.
Kenneth Feinberg has been named “special master” of the fund, according to a statement from Rep. Ed Perlmutter.
Perlmutter said Feinberg will “oversee the process moving forward and the distribution of funds the way generous donors intended. Most importantly, the special master will ensure the victims and their families who are in great need of care and services receive the assistance to which they are entitled.”
Victims and their families have been highly critical in recent weeks of the Community First Foundation, which collected more than $5 million for victims of July 20 shooting.
It wasn’t immediately clear Friday what role Community First would continue to play in the distribution of funds. Some victims have called for Community first to step aside.
