Gov. orders flags lowered Aug. 3 for victims’ memorials

BY THE AURORA SENTINEL

DENVER | Gov. John Hickenlooper ordered flags to be lowered to half-staff on all public buildings statewide on Aug. 3, as a symbol of mourning for July 20 shooting victim Jonathan Blunk, whose funeral is scheduled that day in Nevada.

Flags are to be lowered from sunrise to sunset on public buildings that day.

Blunk was a Navy veteran who lived in Aurora and grew up in Reno, Nev. His family still lives in the area, including his wife, Chantel, and their two children. Blunk was 26 when he was killed on July 20.

Local governments lowered their flags in the wake of the theater shootings. Hickenlooper on July 29 ordered all local governments to return the flags on public buildings to full-staff, one day after the last scheduled funeral in Colorado for those killed in the shootings.

The governor will order flags be lowered to half-staff for Veronica Moser-Sullivan when her funeral is scheduled.

Moser-Sullivan, 6, was the youngest of the victims killed in the attack.
