Former Aurora councilman Ryan Frazier joins GOP Senate race in Colorado

Frazier last ran for office in 2010, when he unsuccessfully challenged Democratic Rep. Ed Perlmutter in the 7th Congressional District.

AURORA | Former Aurora City Councilman Ryan Frazier is running for the Republican Party’s nomination in Colorado to challenge Democratic Sen. Michael Bennet next year.

The former councilman told KUSA-TV ( ), for whom he previously worked as an on-screen pundit, that he planned to announce his candidacy on Thursday.

Frazier had been working as a political commentator for the Denver station.

Frazier last ran for office in 2011, when he unsuccessfully ran for Aurora mayor. He also previously mounted an unsuccessful bid for Congress in 2010 against U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter, D-Golden.

Frazier will face four other Republicans already in the race. Those include state Sen. Tim Neville of Littleton and El Paso County Commissioner Darryl Glenn.
