AURORA | University of Colorado campuses in Denver and Aurora made the Military Times’ national list of best four-year colleges for veterans for the first time since the rankings started four years ago.
The University of Colorado Denver and the Anschutz Medical Campus shared the No. 42 spot on the “Best for Vets” list of 86 national colleges. Since the two campuses in Denver and Aurora share the same Office of Veteran Student Services, they appeared as one school on the list.
CU Denver and the Anschutz Medical Campus beat out the Metropolitan State University of Denver, the only other Colorado-based school on the list. Metro ranked No. 50 on the list.
Initiated in 2010, the Military Times’ “Best for Vets” list of colleges ranks schools according to factors like financial assistance, academic services and extracurricular activities geared specifically toward veterans. Student-to-faculty ratios and graduation rate also figure in the ranking.
In addition to its list of four-year schools, Military Times also ranked two-year, online and nontraditional colleges.
The schools’ Office of Veteran Student Services offers military students from CU Denver and Anschutz mentor programs, academic support and mental health. The office also leads a “Boots to Suit” initiative, a program specifically designed to connect veterans with job training and career skills.
