Aurora police search for shooting suspect near Overland High

The suspect, a Hispanic male with slick, black hair, fled on foot, and several officers are in the area searching for him, police said

AURORA | Aurora police are searching for a man who shot a boy Thursday afternoon near East Jewell Avenue and South Potomac Street.

Police said the shooting happened around 2:30 p.m. in the Jewell Wetlands open space in the 13000 block of Jewell.

The suspect, a Hispanic male with slick, black hair, fled on foot, and several officers are in the area searching for him, police said.

Police said the victim’s injuries were not life-threatening.

Nearby Overland High School, Prairie Middle School and Eastridge, Ponderosa and Polton elementary schools went on “secure perimeter” after the shooting, according to a Cherry Creek School District spokeswoman. The secure perimeter means exterior doors are locked and nobody is allowed in or out, but activity inside the school goes on as normal.

The secure perimeter was lifted around 3:30 p.m.
