AURORA | Thrust back to memories of Aurora’s movie theater massacre, Aurora Mayor Steve Hogan said it was almost “incomprehensible” to learn about the Connecticut mass shootings Dec. 14.
Twenty seven people were killed in the elementary school shootings in Newtown, Conn., according to early reports.
In prepared remarks, Hogan said his heart goes out to the people of Newtown. “It is almost incomprehensible that an elementary school would be the site of such violence,” he said. “We join the nation in praying for the victims, their families and all of those impacted by this terrible tragedy.”
Asked what his thoughts are on Gov. John Hickenlooper’s recent request for tighter gun laws, Hogan said the time is not right for commenting on gun laws.
“This is the time for mourning the victims, their families, and hoping the first responders can somehow deal with the awful sight that must have greeted them in the school. A time for talking about gun laws will come, but not today,” he said.
